Hey remember last year when !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? Last year he was “considerate” enough to leave his boats on the street. But tonight, I came home and found this fucking boat in the damn parking lot.

Refresher course time! Here’s an aerial view of my row of 6 townhouses:

Kinja'd!!!

Each unit has a 1-car garage, room to park a car behind the garage, and then there are 6 shared outdoor spaces. 7 if you include the handicap space that is somewhat frequently abused. There is also a good amount of street parking.

Last year, my next door neighbor parked 2 boats on the street, directly to the right of the shared driveway. He left them there well into November, when they !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Eventually the city tried to tow his boats, when I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , rang his doorbell and told him his boat was about to get towed. He avoided getting the boats towed away, and took them to his grandparents’ place out in the country, which is where he had been planning to take them for the winter anyway. So he thinks I’m super great.

This year, next door neighbor parked only 1 boat, this time to the left of the driveway. Another boat was farther up the street, but I think it belongs to a couple bros who moved into one of the other units earlier this year. So tonight I came home from work, and all the spaces were taken, including space #1 which is now occupied by the damn boat that until now had a perfectly fine spot up the street . Fuck.

Last year when I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about this, they said they can’t do anything about boats parked on the street. But this boat’s not on the street anymore! So I emailed the picture of the boat in its new, temporary-if-I-can-do-anything-about-it parking space to the landlord, and asked if tenants are allowed to have boats in the lot.

Hopefully they give me permission to torch the damn thing. But I’ll settle for making whoever owns this boat move it back out to the street.

UPDATE: The landlord got back to me this morning. Apparently this is not the first time this boat has been brought to their attention.

Thanks for letting us know. (Maintenance guy) actually spoke with parking enforcement from the City of Madison the other day to get the boat off the street… he didn’t think it would end up in our lot though. He is posting a notice on it today to be moved – since it’s Friday, we have to give them until Monday to get rid of it so he will stop over Monday morning to make sure it is gone.

How long has it been there this time? Just today? Does it take it out much? Maybe he’s wants to work on it over the weekend?

I remember the last battle.

Hopefully he’s only doing this temporarily. It sucks to have to be “that guy” again if he isn’t though.

It’s been on the street for maybe a couple weeks? It just got moved into the lot today.

I actually think this is a different boat that belongs to different neighbors who didn’t live here the last go round. I remember that last year both of my next door neighbor’s boats had inboard motors. I’ll check and see if this one is an outboard, in which case it likely belongs to the new neighbors.

Just noticed that. AtlasM found it, though.

Unfortunately for that idea, there’s a cement parking block at the front of the parking space.

If I really wanted to be a dick about it, I suppose I could use my Grand Cherokee to tow it back out to the street. But that’s kinda the nuclear option.

It looks like it takes up space on that last driveway for someone pulling out. At any rate why not just park in front of it with two wheels on the grass?

It does stick out into the path of that driveway but the driveway’s long enough to be able to drive around it. Also, that driveway may be the people who have the boat. I’m not sure exactly.

Boats are fun! Deciding to stop using them in the middle of August, keeping them in a shared parking area until (presumably) November and making your neighbors search for parking, not so much.

If it weren’t for all the spots being taken, I don’t think it would bother me at all for someone to use a space for a boat.

but if all spots are taken....cars should be given priority.

Same here. In and of itself I don’t care about the boat. But I do care about having a parking space.

That was a year ago already? Damn. Doesn’t seem that long ago at all. Do you live in a shore town or something? Why do so many people living in townhouses have boats?

I live in Madison, WI. It’s in the middle of Wisconsin, but we have a couple of good sized lakes right in town.
